Uno is one of the most popular card games ever made. First arriving on the scene in 1971, Uno has done so well that there have been over 150 different versions or variations that have been released in its 45+ year run including such gems as Uno: Glee , Uno: Texas, and of course who can forget the classic Uno: Brett Favre NFL Greatest Player Edition.

You would be hard-pressed to find someone who has never played Uno at some point in their life and there are many reasons why people enjoy it. Some people just love playing the right cards at the right time, other people like just how simple and east to teach Uno can be, and of course some people just like being able to screw over their friends by forcing them to draw or skipping their turns. If you are getting tired of Uno and are looking for something new here are some suggestions to try out.

If you like playing the right cards and the right time...

Then you might like High Society, a bidding game where you are trying to purchase different luxuries to prove you are the richest among your friends or sometimes bidding to not make a social faux pas that might be negative points. Whoever spends their money the best will be the winner as the player with the most points of luxury cards is the winner, however, if you are the player with the least amount of money at the end of the game you automatically lose. Can you spend just enough to prove your status without going broke?

If you like just a quick and simple card game…

Then you might like No Thanks!, which is about as simple as they come. In No Thanks! there is a deck of cards numbered between 3 and 35 and each player will start with a pile of chips which are each worth minus one point. At the beginning of the game, one of the cards is flipped over and then each player must decide to either take that card or put a chip on it to pass until someone takes the card and every chip on it. At the end of the game, the lowest score wins and you score points for the value of each card you have, however, if you have a run of cards you only score points for the lowest card in the run. If you already have the 20 value card and the 21 comes up, maybe you pass on it to try and get more chips from other people? Be careful though as someone else might decide it’s worth taking the hit if the pot gets big enough…

If you like screwing over your friends…

Then you might like Love Letter, an incredibly simple card game consisting of only 16 cards. Each turn you simply draw a card and play a card. The goal is to either be the last person left in the round or have the highest value card at the end of the round. You will play the cards like the guard where if you guess the card the other player is holding they are eliminated or the baron who you compare cards with another player and the player with the smallest value card is done for. Simple to teach, fast to play, and so small you can take it with you anywhere. Love Letter is a simple, quick, yet very fun game that will make you want to always play just one more game.
